In Temple days, sweet incense containing FRANKINCENSE was place on the Altar of Incense and burned morning and evening. In Scripture, incense is often associated with prayer and intercession. David prayed: "May my prayer be set before you like incense." (Ps 141:2). MYRRH, used as a burial spice and in purification rites in ancient Israel, was a primary ingredient of the Holy Anointing Oil. It speaks of suffering and death, but more importantly, our total deliverance & healing provided in the atoning work of Messiah. FRANKINCENSE & MYRRH, two of the three prophetic gifts given to the Messiah at His birth, represent His role as Priest and Prophet, specifically all that He would do and continues to do on our behalf.
Is 53:5: "He was wounded for our transgression, He was bruised for our iniquities;...and by His stripes we are healed."
Heb 7:25-26: "Therefore, He is totally able to deliver those who approach God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them."
